What’s happenin’, y’all? It’s been a hot little minute since I checked in, so I just wanted to give my two cents on the events that enticed me—in a good or bad way—during the month of August! By the way, I’m well aware that it’s officially September now, but y’all know I’m always late. Anyway, let’s do this!
The 2024 Olympics Were Lit!
The Olympics were held in Paris this year, and for the first time ever, I made a conscious decision to watch the events…well, most of the events. I’m not into the shot put or the javelin throw (although I must admit, I did watch a few of the shot put athletes and the long jumpers), but I had to see Simone Biles, Sha’Carri Richardson, and King LeBron James all do their thing. The basketball game between the USA and France was everything! I thought LeBron would be the star of the show (not that he didn’t kill it), but Steph Curry ended up being the savage hero of the game!
Simone, Rebeca Andrade, Alice D’Amato, and Suni Lee blew me away with the gymnastics competition. I watched two of those events in their entirety and I was floored (and the entire Brazilian team gave us a run for our money!). Seeing Sha’Carri win the gold and silver in her track and field competitions was great, and I also enjoyed the swimming events. That doggone Summer McIntosh left no crumbs! Not only were the games great, but I also enjoyed the opening ceremony. Seeing the competing countries come in on the River Seine was really cool, and Lady Gaga and Céline Dion gave spectacular performances, Céline, especially. C’est magnifique!
SexxyRedd’s Nasty Ass Lip Gloss 🤮
A few weeks ago, rapper SexxyRedd announced that she was unveiling her new lip gloss line. Sounds like a great business venture, right? Word on the street is that Sexxy’s lip gloss sales are through the roof, but truth be told…the flavors she decided to bestow on the lip glosses are nasty as all hell. The names of the lip glosses are: Coochie Juice, Nut, Gonorrhea, Sex On My Period, Yellow Discharge, Blue Balls, Pussyhole Pink, and Bootyhole Brown. I kid you the freak not.
Why in the blue hell would I want some shit like that on my lips? Yellow discharge? Ladies, if you have yellow discharge, that’s not a good thing; that means it’s time to visit the gynecologist. Gonorrhea? Coochie juice? What the hell?? This girl has done and said some nasty stuff before, but this shit takes the damn cake. And I’m sorry to say this, but the fact that this lip gloss is proving to be lucrative for Sexxy worries me. I mean it really worries me. I can see folks now: “Hey, do you like my new SexxyRedd lip gloss? Today I’m wearin’ Nut!” 🤢🤮 I’ll stick to my Fenty Beauty lip gloss, thank you very much, ma’am.
Ashanti Gives Birth! 👶🏾
About two weeks ago or so, Ashanti announced that she gave birth to her and Nelly’s baby boy on July 18, 2024. She posted a photo of herself on Instagram, showcasing her postpartum body and giving the Frida Mom brand some serious shine!
Ashanti is my age, so I am extremely happy for her. Most folks love to bash you if you’re a woman that doesn’t have any kids by the age of 30 (I had an old acquaintance of mine tell me that my eggs were gonna dry out and fall out of my womb soon), so it fills my heart with joy to see Ms. Ashanti prove that you can still embrace motherhood well into your 40s. Congrats to her! ❤❤
Kamala Harris Announces Gov. Tim Walz as Her Running Mate!
After President Joe Biden officially dropped out of the 2024 Presidential Election and handed the reins over to Vice President Kamala Harris, most folks were on pins and needles wondering who her running mate would be. In early Aug., VP Harris gave her answer: Minnesota governor Tim Walz was named as her presidential mate. I didn’t watch the Democratic National Convention this year (and I hate I missed President and Mrs. Obama’s speech), but I’ve heard some really good things about Gov. Walz so far. I know my girl Lovelyti gave him her stamp of approval (she’s from Minnesota herself)! Now that we’re getting down to the wire with the election, we’re gonna have to see how this goes!
FBI Returns…but Tiffany’s Leaving!
This year I became a huge fan of the CBS show, FBI (mainly due to that fine ass Zeeko Zaki! He’s my favorite character on the show). I’ve been watching the old episodes here and there since the show’s season finale aired this past May or June, so I was psyched when Missy Peregrym (who plays Agent Maggie Bell in the series) and the CBS social media team announced on Instagram that season seven of FBI was premiering this October.
Then I was hit with the bad news. There were fans in the comments section mentioning that Katherine Renee Kane, the actress who plays Special Agent Tiffany Wallace, would be leaving the show. Sure enough, I did my own research, and found an article in Deadline confirming that the actress was saying goodbye to 26 Fed. Tiffany was one of my favorite characters! She was badass, beautiful, and didn’t take any shit. Why is she leaving? Hell, why are all the black folks on this show all getting canned or quitting? First it was Ray, the tech guy; then, it was Kristen (another favorite character of mine), then Hobbs got killed off! What the hell!?
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars Make a Killer Ballad (Pun Slightly Intended)!
Around late July or early Aug., Lady Gaga and my future husband, Bruno Mars, teased the release of a duet that they worked on. I couldn’t wait to hear it. After all, it’s been years since Bruno did a collab with anyone. Plus, my boo is taking his sweet time releasing his fourth solo album, so I was going through a bit of a Bruno drought and needed a little something to quench my thirst.
On Aug. 16. 2024, Gaga and Bruno finally released the duet they had been hinting about for weeks. The song was entitled “Die With a Smile,” and at first, I figured they pulled a Beyoncé and decided to do a country track, judging from the YouTube thumbnail. However, I was surprised to hear a soulful type ballad about being with the one you love during your last days on earth. The song was beautiful, and Bruno and Gaga’s voice blended together in perfect harmony. “Die With a Smile” has been in heavy rotation since it’s been released and has become my favorite song of the summer, if not the year. The song is straight fyah. Bru-Bru, you done did it again, baby. 🔥
