What’s poppin’, y’all? While checking out my Twitter feed yesterday, I saw that Bruno Mars was trending, and any of you that have been readers of my blog for the past few years know that I love me some Bruno. Well, this time all the news wasn’t exactly good. According to Complex News, Bruno has amassed a $50M gambling debt with MGM Resorts (they own MGM Grand, Park MGM, Mandalay Bay and the Bellagio).
Everyone’s been buzzing about this. It’s still all over Twitter, and many of the gossip and entertainment news people are speaking out about Bruno’s possible gambling addiction. Even Ti and Kempire reported on it, so it’s definitely making news.
Another part of Bruno’s life that’s becoming a bit newsworthy is Bruno’s alleged feud with bandmate/homeboy Anderson .Paak. According to EurWeb, Bruno and Andy weren’t getting along due to a money dispute, but their “beef” is now squashed.
So what are my thoughts?
First off, I have to address everyone continuing to bring up Bruno’s arrest in 2010. For you youngins that don’t know, back in Sept. 2010, Bruno was arrested for cocaine possession. Bruno plead guilty, and wound up serving community service and paying a $2,000.00 fine. Black Twitter never let this go—some folks joke about it, and some honestly believe that Bruno is still messin’ with booger sugar—and now that this news has come up, people are steadily saying that Bruno has a drug and gambling addiction. When it comes to Bruno having a drug addiction, I don’t think he was an addict. I believe he was a recreational drug user that got caught. Not only that, I don’t think Bruno has touched coke since he was busted. If you watch the video below, it shows him in court, and you see that he’s scared…really scared. Bruno even spoke with Piers Morgan about how he realized how he almost blew his chances at success by messing around with drugs. You can argue that I’m biased, but looking at the evidence I just gave, plus the fact that there haven’t been any reported incidents since, I think I’m right about this one.
Another point I’d like to focus on is people saying that Bruno is broke. I don’t think that’s the case, either. If this story is true, he’s heaped up a pretty high debt, but keep in mind that Bruno’s net worth was reported as being $175M, and his shows in Vegas alone earn $90M. Let’s not forget the earnings from his international shows, the songs he’s written and produced, as well as his investment in SelvaRey, etc. If we were talking about Joe the Applebee’s Line Cook, that’d be one thing. Bruno, on the other hand, can pay back that debt.
Now as far as Bruno having a gambling addiction is concerned…that may not be too far off the mark. There’s been some rumors going around for a while now about Bruno’s increasing gambling debt with MGM, and all Bruno fans know how much he loves to gamble. One of Bruno’s favorite things to do is player poker, and he even used poker as a means to pay his rent before his music career caught steam.
Yes, I know I just finished saying that Bruno could pay back the $50M, but that doesn’t mean that he should be bringing that much debt upon himself after all the hard work he’s put in. I saw some people commenting that Bruno should leave Vegas, and if he does have an addiction to gambling, that’s not a bad idea. If this isn’t a real addiction, and Bruno just had a little too much fun, he should still pump his brakes and take some time away from the city that never sleeps.
Finally, allow me to speak on the “beef” with Andy. Yeah, I have to call bullshit on that. Don’t get me wrong, it’s certainly possible that Andy may have had a dispute with someone—probably the higher ups in the record industry—about not receiving fair pay, but I don’t think that dispute was with Bruno. Andy’s been seen with Bruno multiple times in the past few weeks, and it’s not just a, “Oh, we have to make these appearances together for contractual reasons,” type situation. The two were seen in public recently, genuinely enjoying each other’s company.
I just wish my baby Bruno all the best, and I hope he gets out from under this alleged debt. He’s spent the last few years touring like a man possessed (non-fans keep saying they had no idea what happened to Bruno; us Hooligans have seen him all around the world going non-stop); he may need to take some time off for a little while and get some rest. And when I say rest, I mean rest. No parties, no poker, just some real R&R with loved ones. If treatment is an option, do it. Take care of you Bru-Bru. ❤❤
By the way, we’re all patiently waiting for that new album, babe. Get rested first, though. Again, your health—mental and physical—comes first.
